When I discovered the Giant Robot store in San Francisco it became immediatly one of my favorite store of all times. Since then I have also visited the Giant Robot HQ store and GR2 in Los Angeles. One book I discovered at Giant Robot is "Instructoart" from Matthew Vescovo. Under the spell of the book I am now myself on the lookout for Instructoart when I am travelling. Recently I came across this master piece at the Standard Hotel Downtown LA.

Hand Dryer, Tokyo Department Store

Hand Dryer, Tokyo Department Store
Originally uploaded by Zatoichi.
Japan is the best place to find curiosities. I just arrived today and was already amazed by the gadgets they have here. This is a hand dryer in a rest room of a Tokyo department store. When you stick your hand in it a strong hot blast will have them dry in seconds.

Gebt Mannheim eine Chance (This article is in German, scroll down to find it)

You won't find Mannheim on any Top 10 (or likely even Top 100) listing of German tourist destinations...

"WOHIN willst Du ziehen? Verliebt? In Mannheim?

Yahoo! News - PluggedIn: Laptop Fuel Cells -- Ready for Takeoff?: Fuel cells that can run laptops for 10 hours or more without plug power have captured the imagination of computer junkies. But first, backers must prove that they are as safe to fly with as a cigarette lighter or a duty-free bottle of vodka.
Goodman predicts that, in a matter of years, fuel cell batteries no bigger than a cigarette lighter will run for 10 hours or more before being replaced.
'After about 10 hours of operation, you will pop out a fuel cell cartridge about the size of a Bic lighter or inkjet cartridge' and put in a fresh one, he said.
-> Sounds promising

Jetsetting.net / Bryant Park Hotel - New York City - Hotels (Review): "Launched by the Philips Hotel Group on 14 February 2001, The Bryant Park, located on West 40th Street, overlooking Bryant Park and staring across at the WR Grace Building on 42nd Street, is a hotel with service and setting unparalleled with any New York hotel at which I've stayed. The hotel, designed in a retro-70s manner complete with burgundy leather wall paneling and a burnt siena (remember the Crayon?) Lucite reception and concierge area, hits exceptional service spot on with attention, understated class and genuinely hospitable warmth."
